About
«Battery Fjell 1945» takes the players back in time to the year 1945, to the historical fortress, Fjell Battery, located at the Norwegian west coast. Through a VR experience, players get to explore the problems and challenges that followed the end of the Second World War.
The game recreates events that took place in the summer of 1945 when a complex gallery of people from Norway, Germany, Great Britain, USA and Russia were co-located at the fortress Battery Fjell. In the game the player has the role of a journalist to told to investigate Battery Fjell to «find out what is going on there». At the fortress he meets there the different characters from the different nationalities who are involved in the stories and events from the summer of 1945. Through these meetings, the players discover and explore complex issues related to to war, human rights and historical narratives.

Pedagogical value
Pedagogical aims and use of Battery Fjell 1945. The VR-game has been developed for use as a learning resource for 8-10th graders, where we take them on a journey to the post-war era after the second world war. The location, theme and topic of the game is aligned with the scope of the curricula of the Norwegian lower secondary school. The theme of the VR game urther has the potential to relate to the current world situation, especially to the current war in Europe. By exploring historical events and dilemmas from the summer of 1945, the game can help create an awareness of the consequences of war, human rights and complex interpersonal relationships. This project has been developed by Medialab at Western Norway University of Applied Sciences in collaboration with Museum West, and with financial support from the Norwegian Cultural Council. The game will be available Online, as well as in the Museum Fjell fortress.
