Vision

TREFF’s (Tromsø Educational Film Festival) vision is to promote the use of film as a pedagogical tool and to enhance the quality of educational films.  

We aim for TREFF to be an arena where teachers in higher education and film makers can meet, share experiences, and be inspired. 

TREFF focuses on the pedagogical context of the films.  

How can film promote learning? Film as a medium cannot magically fix or increase learning, but when combined in a pedagogical context, it can be a useful tool to support students and viewers in their own learning process. 

If you are a filmmaker or teacher working with film for education, we hope you will not hesitate to send your films to us! TREFF is also for those not initially interested in using film in teaching. If you are concerned with student learning and good pedagogical practices in higher education, this festival is just right for you. TREFF aims to inspire more people to take the plunge and use film in their own pedagogical context. 

The festival will feature exciting films, interesting speakers, exchange of experiences, workshops, and many good conversations. 

Who are we?

The TREFF film festival is organized by Result, The Resource Center for Teaching, Learning, and Technology at UiT The Arctic University of Norway. The center is dedicated to supporting the university’s professional communities in their teaching practice, including research, technology and learning. The production of films for educational purposes is a central part of the center’s work.

The story

We sought a festival for educational films, hoping to find new ideas, expertise and contacts. However, we could not find such a festival in Norway, and only a handful existed in the world. This prompted us to consider creating our own festival and we are delighted to invite you to our first film festival at UiT The Arctic University of Norway.
