Pedagogical value
Film is a key element in an e-learning course on sexual harassment, aimed at employees and leaders in higher education. The course was developed in collaboration between the Centre for Gender Equality and the Media Services Section at the University of Agder.
From UiA’s website:
«All employees must know that we have zero tolerance for sexual harassment. We created this course to increase knowledge among leaders and staff in the sector,» says Kristian Solaas, Equality Advisor at the University of Agder and project manager for the course development.
The course aims to give employees a better understanding of what sexual harassment is and what impact it has on individuals.
«That’s why the course explores, among other things, the borderline between flirting and sexual harassment, the consequences of crossing boundaries, and what you can do if this happens. For leaders and supervisors, it is especially important to be aware of the effect of power and the responsibility that comes with power-asymmetric relationships,» says Solaas.
The course is now offered to all employees at UiA and is part of mandatory onboarding for new staff at the university.
«Preventing sexual harassment is particularly important, and we believe this course can contribute to that,» says UiA Rector Sunniva Whittaker.
«We are making the course available to all other higher education institutions, and equality advisors at both OsloMet and NTNU have tested the pilot version,» adds Solaas.
The digital course consists of five chapters and takes about one hour to complete.
