At<\/span>\u202fthis educational film festival, we will show films that are connected to education in some way.\u202fThe filmmakers and\/or educators behind the film<\/span>s<\/span> will present their project<\/span>s<\/span> and the pedagogical thought behind the film<\/span>s<\/span>.\u202f<\/span>After each screening there will be a Q & A where the audience <\/span>ca<\/span>n<\/span> a<\/span>sk questions.<\/span><\/p>\n

TREFF<\/span> is not only a film festival, but also an arena for finding inspiration for teaching practices and discussing how to combine film with learning.<\/span> We want to explore the pedagogical\u202fpotential\u202fof every film.\u202fBecause of this the audience\u202f<\/span>won\u2019t<\/span>\u202fjust see a film b<\/span>ut might also find some <\/span>new ideas<\/span> for their <\/span>teaching<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Terje Bergli is a senior EdTech advisor and <\/span>filmmaker<\/span> <\/span>at <\/span>Result (Resource center for teaching, learning and technology), <\/span>UiT<\/span> <\/span>T<\/span>he<\/span> <\/span>A<\/span>rctic <\/span>U<\/span>niversity of Norway<\/span>. Terje <\/span>is also the program director for TREFF<\/span>, and h<\/span>e<\/span> has been working with education technology and digital media production in education for 20 years. Early on he <\/span>was<\/span> <\/span>an educator within the media and film field at secondary school and in higher education. <\/span>He is also an animator, motion graphic designer and has worked as an editor <\/span>for NRK, the national broadcaster in Norway<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Susanne B. Unger is a lecturer and program coordinator at the Rachel Carson Center for Environmental Studies at the University of Munich, where she manages the Environmental Studies Certificate Program. She earned her Ph.D. in linguistic anthropology from the University of Michigan Ann Arbor, studying the role of films in civic education for German youth.<\/p>\n

With a strong background in media, Susanne has co-taught filmmaking workshops, worked at various film festivals across Germany, and trained university instructors at the Technical University Munich. Recently, her documentary work has shifted to radio and podcasts, focusing on environmental issues and human-animal relationships. She is thrilled to be part of TREFF this year.<\/p>\n

National curator for Viten-TV \u2013 a new, open streaming platform for research dissemination from the higher education sector, developed by four central educational institutions to make knowledge accessible to everyone \u2013 without advertising, algorithms or login. Ingrid has extensive experience from the film and TV industry. She started for the University of Bergen as a film producer. Today, she manages the daily operations of Viten-TV and coordinates the collaboration between the institutions. Ingrid is passionate about communicating research through moving images.<\/p>\n

Kristian gives the jury an important perspective as the student representative. He is a third-year bachelor student of history who has been very active in student government and student organisations, and has worked as the educational officer for the student parliament during the academic year 2024\/25. He has been particularly focused on the emergence of AI and on ensuring that educational institutions see it as an opportunity and a resource, rather than using it as an excuse to return to outdated grading methods.<\/p>\n

Being the father of a baby who has just started kindergarten, Kristian is aware of the stress that a strict schedule of exams and assignments can create when combined with daily life, and of the opportunity that film provides in releasing some of this pressure.<\/div>\n

Kristen M. Gilliland, Ph.D.<\/span><\/b>, is a Research Assistant Professor at Vanderbilt University\u2019s Warren Center for Neuroscience Drug Discovery<\/sup><\/source-footnote><\/span>and President of the non-profit 22 Forever<\/sup><\/source-footnote><\/span>. President and Executive Director \u2013 22 Forever. Professor Emeritus, California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo.<\/p>\n

Formerly a chemistry professor<\/sup><\/source-footnote><\/span>, Dr. Gilliland redirected her career toward mental health education after tragically losing her son to an accidental overdose in 2019<\/sup><\/source-footnote><\/span>.<\/p>\n

<\/source-inline-chip><\/source-inline-chips><\/sources-carousel-inline>Bringing a unique perspective to educational media, she developed the multi-award-winning documentary <\/span>Speaking Through Me<\/span><\/i><\/b> (2023), specifically designed for youth audiences<\/sup><\/source-footnote><\/span>. Her work merges scientific rigor with advocacy, focusing on developing middle school brain health curriculums<\/sup><\/source-footnote><\/span>and delivering impactful presentations on neuroplasticity and substance use prevention<\/sup><\/source-footnote><\/sup><\/source-footnote><\/sup><\/source-footnote><\/sup><\/source-footnote><\/span>.<\/p>\n

Her film was screened at TREFF 2024 and won the audience award and the jury’s honorable mention, so we are pleased to have her back at our festival for the newest edition.<\/p>\n

    Terje Bergli is a <\/span>filmmaker<\/span> <\/span>who <\/span>works <\/span>at <\/span>Result at <\/span>UiT<\/span> <\/span>T<\/span>he<\/span> <\/span>A<\/span>rctic <\/span>U<\/span>niversity of Norway<\/span>. Terje <\/span>is the program director for TREFF<\/span>, and h<\/span>e<\/span> has been working with film in education for 20 years.     Ellen is affiliated at OsloMet (Oslo Metropolitan University) where she works at the Faculty of Technology, Art and Design. She is currently working with the EQUALS-EU project that aims to give more women access to technology, digital skills, and leadership positions.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n

    In terms of video there is more than just the technical and visual parts. The pedagogical context where and how the video is used is also important.     Kelsey Brannan is the creator of the popular post-production focused YouTube channel: Premiere Gal.\u00a0Kelsey is a video editor but also a multimedia expert with a special focus on sharing her knowledge on Adobe Creative Coud apps. With her online tutorials she has helped millions \u201ccreating better videos with the Gal\u201d, as she says.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n

    May-Eldrid is 24 years old and works at a daily basis as a nurse at Troms\u00f8 Kommune. She studied to become a nurse at UiT the Arctic University of Norway and is still a student at UiT where she is building on previous competence. When she was a bachelorstudent she was an actor in some educational films as well as exposed to educational films in her tuition.
