supervision
Do you supervise PhD students? Do you want to receive practical training and theoretical insight into research supervision?
The programme is designed for a process-oriented form of work based on the participants’ needs. Great emphesis is placed on collegial experiences and learning. After completing the programme, participants will have acquired central knowledge, skills and competencies in research supervision.
The programme satisfies the requirements UiT sets for its research supervisors.
It is a requirement that you, as a participant during the programme period, are an active main or co-supervisor for one or more PhD students.

START-UP SESSIONS AUTUMN 2023
All participants must attende one kick off meeting
- Start-up session in Tromsø, in Norwegian: October 13th
- Start-up session online, in English: October 18th
- Start-up session in Harstad: October 11th (Provided that there are at least 15 participants attending)
- Start-up session in Narvik: October 20th (Provided that there are at least 15 registered participants attending)
- Start-up session in Alta: October 24th (Provided that there are at least 15 participants attending)
FOLLOW-UP GATHERING
Online gathering, November 30th 2022
FACULTY GATHERING
This day is arranged by your faculty, where you will meet other supervisors, and discuss relevant topics in PhD supervision. This event will take place in the spring of 2024. Dates will be announced.
CONCLUDING WORKSHOPS
Group workshops will take place in April and the beginning of March 2024
PREREQUISITES FOR PARTICIPATION
EMPLOYER
You must have UiT Norway’s Arctic University as your main employer (main position).
SUPERVISOR ROLE
You must be an active main supervisor or co-supervisor for one or more PhD students at the time the programme starts.
PROGRAMME MODEL

Mandatory participation in the follow-up gathering and concluding workshop.

Work with content and assignments in the online part of the programme.

Individual and group work with work requirements.

Submission of 3 work requirements for approval (one before and two after Christmas).

Discussion of programme content with others.
SCOPE: 50-100 HOURS
The scope of the programme is 50 – 100 hours, depending on own work capacity / effort.
REQUIREMENTS FOR IMPLEMENTATION
In order to be approved for participation in the programme, certain requirements must be met.
PARTICIPATION
You must attend one of the start-up sessions.
WORK REQUIREMENTS
You must submit three work requirements, which must be approved. One work requirement is delivered in mid-December, two are delivered in May.
SUPERVISING
During the programme period, you must be the main or co-supervisor for a PhD student
PRESENTATION
You must participate and present reflections on your own practice on a programme day in the spring of 2023
